What types of distance education universities in the U.S. offer doctoral level degree programs?

Doctoral level degree programs are usually offered by post-graduate degree awarding institutions in the U.S. only. Associate’s, diplomas and certificate programs are almost always offered by community colleges or specialist schools in the U.S. However, advanced degrees like PhD’s are offered by full-fledged post-graduate universities specializing in research-oriented degree qualifications.
