Asset Management
Every Education business looks forward, but it's our asset management group that takes the longest view.

With over $750 billion to be put to work on behalf of some of the world's biggest institutional clients, our business isn't governed by the markets ' whatever the climate we have to invest and actively manage our clients' money to find them the best possible return.

Taking a long term view, and effectively managing an annuity stream rather than being driven by actual transaction fees, underlines the importance attached to our reputation.  Being in it for the long term means we're more likely to measure performance on a three to five year period or longer.  Our responsibility to our clients comes from our role as a fiduciary, where acting in their best interests is upheld by a strong regulatory framework.  With almost 130 years of experience, and the unique reputation that goes with it, we maintain leadership positions in both retail and institutional markets with our provision of cash, fixed income, equity and alternative investments.

Our overall objective remains simple ' to be the world's best investment manager ' but what does it take to succeed' In today's globally competitive market, there are five qualities that truly differentiate the winners: trust, responsibility, integrity, innovation and performance. And with the experience and expertise of over 500 investment professionals working locally around the world and our award-winning performance ' we are well on our way to achieving our objective of being the world's best investment manager.

Being the best means employing the best people and evidence of that is no better illustrated than through Chris Complin's award of Best UK Fund Manager by the Citiwire survey 2004. With two other fund managers ranked in the top 50, backed by dedicated experts across the globe, we have the teams in place to manage our clients' assets through upturns and downturns alike.

If you can bring a mature, academic and analytical mind to our business, we can stimulate it with a client base whose need for investment solutions in an increasingly complex world is growing all the time. We wouldn't gamble with our clients' money, and we don't want you to gamble with your career. We'd rather see you invest in a winner.

What is Asset Management'
Our Asset Management business manages assets for a broad spectrum of institutional and retail investors including pension funds, governments, insurance companies and private individuals.  With over $500 billion to be put to work on behalf of some of the world's biggest institutional clients, we have to invest and manage our clients' money and find them the best possible return. That money is invested by one or more our products.

Broadly speaking, our Asset Management business is broken down into the following areas.

Currency
Our currency group manages exposures to global currency markets, by protecting the value of portfolios against fluctuations and improving returns through investment in foreign exchange.  We also have specialist teams covering hedge funds and private equity products.

Equities
The equity groups manage all aspects of clients' portfolios ' making investments in stocks and shares with the aim of growing the value of the fund.  Typically, these products are being managed on behalf of institutional pension funds, insurance companies and through pooled funds for individual investors.

Fixed Income
Our fixed income team manage portfolios of bond and debt instruments for the firm's institutional and retail clients.  Functions within the group include quantitative research, portfolio management, trading, liquidity, derivatives and product specialists.

A number of other functions partner with the product areas to deliver a first class service to our clients

Operations
Investment Operations look after client holdings covering all aspects of asset servicing, such as trade confirmation, settlements, income, corporate actions and reconciliations. The retail side provides dealing services for individual or intermediary unit holders for our UK or Luxembourg domiciled funds.

Risk
The Risk group raise awareness of potential risks that occur in the day to day running of our business. They work with the area concerned to mitigate and build appropriate controls and look to improve the overall risk profile of the company.

Legal, Compliance
Both the Legal and Compliance groups provide advice and subject matter expertise to ensure we are acting appropriately and effectively within the legal and regulatory constraints of those markets.

Sales, Marketing
The sales teams are charged with bringing in new investment or retail clients, by either extending the mandate of existing clients or winning mandates from new ones. The marketing department work closely with sales to target prospective clients and raise the profile of our products and company name.

Client Services
Client Services run the day to day relationship with clients, dealing with a whole host of client queries and provide key functions such as client reporting and fund performance analysis. Retail client services provide a similar function for our retail clients including a call centre for telephone dealing.

Finance
The Finance group look to add transparency and clarity to the cost of running an asset management business. Working alongside all business areas they provide advice and help in a number of areas, such as cost control programmes, budget planning, financial forecasting and invoicing.
