Medical & Nursing

An increasing demand to diversify health care has apparently caused a shortage of medical health care providers especially nurses. Today, more and more nursing homes, caregiver centers, wellness program facilities, and other similar health-related services have transformed the roles of nurses from health-care support providers to frontline dispensers of managed care, maintaining it outside of traditional facilities. Doctors remain as key players in the health-care industry, but nurses have definitely become prime movers. Medical healthcare institutions together with the government have created several schemes in order to increase the quality and number of health care personal, strengthen the training of the nursing team and increase compensation rate of the nurses in the different medical institution and other more schemes. Many medical institutes and nursing schools offer different nursing degree programs such as vocational courses, master’s program and doctorate programs.

National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)
Before choosing a nursing school, ask if the school you want to attend is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). This commission is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as the national accrediting body for all types of nursing education programs. An accredited school offers a better chance of earning a license, and of being admitted to a four-year school or graduated program later in a nursing career.

Medical & Nursing Education Programs
There are many types of degrees in nursing. Which degree you need to have depends on the nursing job you want to specialize in. A university nursing school offers programs which takes traditionally about 3 to 4 years. You can finish your nursing study at a university with a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, doctorate degree or an associate degree.

Baccalaureate Nursing Programs
Baccalaureate Nursing Program prepares high school graduates, who want to proceed to a nursing career in the next four years, a solid foundation on total health care – hospice care, preventive care and health maintenance. Basically, the curriculum covers all facets of general learning – humanities, social sciences, basic sciences, business, psychology, sociology, ethics and nutrition. Under the present curriculum, however, technology-based subjects are introduced. The duration of this program is four years of University/College Instruction.

Graduate Program: Bachelor of Science Nurse (BSN)
The BSN degree is the most recommended degree. Many nursing jobs will pay you based on your level of education instead of on your experience. The BSN program takes 4 years to complete. It also gives you a stepping stone for further education into areas of specialization.

Master’s Program
Masters program in Nursing focuses on the theories and clinical application of nursing, including areas of study that may be outside of the nursing career but may still bear impact on the deliverance of an effective and wholesome nursing service, such as social and economic issues, and global concerns challenging the health care industry today. Statistics, Economics, Health Policies, Professional Ethics, Health and Nutrition, Mental Health and Family Planning partially form part of the curriculum, including subject areas that will develop nurses into future leaders in the health-care industry, such as the development of their leadership skills and interpersonal relations. Research work is given emphasis due to its importance in the gathering of information concerning the latest health-care techniques.

Nursing Doctorate Program
The program is more focused on developing advanced practice nurse specialist skills, usually in evaluation, outcome research, entrepreneurship, leadership, education and/or clinical practice. This program takes four years to complete. To prepare leaders who can affect change through system redesign and evidenced-based decision making in a variety of clinical, organizational, and educational settings is the goal of a nursing doctorate program.

Medical & Nursing Continuing Education Programs
There are also institutes which offer medical and nursing continuing education programs to practicing healthcare professional to develop superior continuing education activities by providing them with the information, techniques, and modalities to improve patient care and prevent disease.

These activities are developed for a wide range of individual or multidisciplinary audiences (including physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals), based upon identified educational needs. It is expected that participating healthcare professionals will gain new knowledge that can be applied clinically toward improving practice and enhancing patient care. Post-activity evaluations as well as short- and long-term surveys determine the educational usefulness of educational activities and collect educational needs data.

Online Nursing Degrees
For nurses who wish to further their already extensive training online nursing degrees are now widely available. For example, if a person already is a registered nurse and is looking to obtain BSN, he or she can do that online from accredited universities.

Career Opportunities
You have enough job choices if you want to specialize in the nursing sector. The nursing degree you will earn at your nursing school will be important in the career you want to broaden yourself in. Even after you have graduated you can still choose from the many program offers which can increase your knowledge in nursing while you are working.
