Education Issues
There is a myriad of issues experienced in the education industry. Globally, if one looks at the industry, there are few that are common to a variety of regions. Education issues tend to be largely concerned with the manner in which subjects are taught, how students deal with them, and how they are examined. While these are few of the broad ranging education issues, others include behavioural aspects, such as on compass demeanour, student-teacher relationships, etc.
Given that the education industry is an evolving one like many others, education issues are being dealt with in a manner that is deemed fit. However, the nature of the education issues emerging is also evolving. Therefore, while dealing with the past or present problems, you can expect a newer strain of education issues to develop.
Some experts in the education industry see these emerging problems as an inevitable part of progress in the industry. This is based on the fact that there are bound to be by products produced along with the creation of new products. The products here refer to the students cultivated by the education systems. ‘Products’ also refer to the various types of education.
Given that every society has its own unique education issues, individual education bodies need to tackle their problems in a suitable manner. For example, education issues in western countries tend to be linked to dysfunctional families and substance abuse. In some Asian countries, education issues tend to be related more to poverty or lack of opportunity.
In areas, where there is lack of opportunity, appropriate education bodies aim at creating more opportunities for more people to have access to education. This means establishing more educational setups. It also includes allowing people from various backgrounds to step forward. Often, in developing countries, people from minority groups or the ethnically oppressed, hesitate to educate themselves for a variety of reasons. In some developed countries too, this has been the case. However, largely, people do want an education, and this is why there should always be opportunities available to them.
Having briefly described some of the education issues that tend to be more sociological or even political, the curriculum is another major consideration. Curricula in most countries are designed according to what the ruling class sees fit. Although, democratic countries lay claim to having a balanced curriculum, there is far greater emphasis on what is seen fit for students to learn as opposed to what students would like to learn. Without doubt, education authorities largely include curriculum content that allows individuals to fit into the system. However, this is a point for dispute because there are many individuals that want to operate a little differently and not be bound by what the system demands.
Another major concern to address among education issues is the quality of teachers. While there are many regions that have their own standards of education, teacher quality should never be compromised on. This is because a bad teacher can destroy students’ lives. Many students are known to lose interest in subjects that they have loved just because of a boring teacher or a teacher that has belittled them in front of their classmates. A good teacher will not be boring nor will he or she insult a student. A good teacher will look to be as creative as possible in order to hold the attention of the students and motivate them too. Motivating students and holding their attention are key areas that a teacher must work on in addition to teaching subject matter. Students and teachers are known to bond better when a teacher-student relationship is developed this way. Education turns out to be of a better standard in this way.
Considering the variety of education issues that prevail, there are indeed some that can be easily dealt with while others require better understanding and appropriate action. In regions where there is insufficient attention and importance given towards education issues, they can never be solved. The compounded problems observed can sometimes cane be easily removed by simple and effective changes. The sad truth remains, and many regions suffer with a number of education issues. However, all is not so bleak, as there are also many regions that have transformed their situations in a short span of time.
