Education system in China comprises of nice years of compulsory education along with primary schools, middle schools and universities. The Education system in china is administrated by China's Ministry of Education. Kids start at the age of 6 or 7 and go for 6 years of primary education provided free of cost by the Ministry of Education. Primary education is then followed by middle schooling that lasts up for three years and then three more years of high school, which was free as well up till 1985 but not after that, hence students compete for scholarships in great number. Since education up till middle is free, Ministry of Education has recorded 99% attendance rate for primary and 80% rate was for both middle and primary education, combined.

In 2003, as declared by UN Development Program, China had around 20 million students taught by 613,000 teachers, in 116,390 kindergartens. At that moment, 116.8 million students were being taught in 425,846 primary schools, under the supervision of 5.7 million teachers. 79,490 institutions for secondary education along with 4.5 million teachers, that taught a total attendance of 85.8 million students. The count of students in 3,065 specialized secondary schools was 5 million, taught by 199,000 teachers. Apart from that, there 6,843 agricultural and vocational schools operating and under the supervision of 289,000 teachers, 5.2 million students are being taught. In 2003, there were about 1,551 schools teaching 365,000 special students having around 30,000 teachers. There were 1,552 colleges and universities for higher learning, having a total of 11 million students being taught under the supervision of 725,000 professors.

The education system in china started to improve as in 1984, there came a plan to have laws formulated specially for the education system. Due to the denial of 1966-76's Cultural Revolution, the modernization and advancement in China mainly focused the economic sector of the country. Then a year later in 1985, there came plan to make 9 years of education compulsory thus leading to the establishment of State Education Commission. The implementation of the plan seemed to be working as the funds for education rose by 72 percent as compared to the funds raised in previous years.

As the 21st century rose up, Chinese government gave out it reforms and goals for improvement in its education system. They intend to elevate the number of students getting enrolled in universities for higher education, so that china can produce more professional trained graduates that can help build the nation even stronger. To increase the efficiency and standards of the universities, they also consolidated and renovated the universities, which are not just suitable for local students but also for the international students. Though their plans of expanding the education system were massive and had a major impact on the illiteracy rate of china, but that also gave birth to the increased rate of unemployed fresh graduates and several other repercussions that require immediate attention. In near future People's Republic of China is planning to conduct a national survey of its universities in order to decide what are their next steps are going to be regarding the education system of China.
