American Education Week

A week before the Thanksgiving American Education Week is celebrated which is organized by the organizations like National School Boards Association and National Education Association, Parent Teacher Association and the U.S. Dept of Education. Education week is celebrated in order to proclaim the importance of schools and education in nations building in a number of sectors and considering the fact that schools are the back bone of country’s values of freedom, civility and equality and provide the young American generation with the necessary tools that they require in order to be successful in practical life and help build the nation, by broadening their minds both intellectually and practically.

Some ideas to celebrate the Education week for the educational institutions includes the students writing and saying thanks to all their teachers and counselors who have helped them or are helping them academically or morally in past or in present. Institutes should also launch a video or a program that should include interviews of its alumni and all the aspects of institutions history to let students know where the institution was and where it is now. Institutions shall also organize parent teacher meetings during the Educational week in order to keep the parents informed of their child’s progress academically and mentally. A reunion of the former students of the institution should also be organized in order to let the past alumni know where their institution stands now. American Education week also provides the schools with the opportunity of letting the students and parents know of the plans and initiatives that the school has taken in order to improve their education standards and how they are progressing towards them.

AEW also provides the schools a chance to take surveys and know of the parents and students problems and their remarks regarding the education system of the institute that will certainly help the schools to improve their standards and acknowledge the problems that students may be facing. Schools and institutes should also invite people from different walks of life, whether it be business community, parents or students, in order to address them and let them know what does 21st century requires from the students and how the education system is shaping up in accordance with the new requirements. AEW is a perfect occasion to let media inside the institutes and let them talk with the students to ask them regarding the quality of education they are being provided with at the school and how are they doing with their course study, and students can also hit the issues that require the media attention.

People from different walks of life should be encouraged to sign up for the AEW teacher of the day competition. Different persons whether they belong to the business community, lawmaking or are elected officials should be involved in the teaching contest and let the camera record how well they do, this will help increase the competition among the teachers which would ultimately result in the improvement of their teaching skills as well.
