ACE or American Council on Education, founded in 1918, includes around 1800 or more acknowledged, degree Colleges and Universities and all other organizations and corporations that are operating in the field of higher education. ACE plays a vital role in the leadership development of higher education, but its role regarding the public encouragement for higher education, research and other efforts for the betterment of high education can't be neglected as well. ACE is the main operating body that takes oaths and initiatives in order to raise the bar of higher education across America as well as resolve any issues jeopardizing the standards of higher education in America. ACE has a vision and aim of having a literate strong nation by means of contributing and working hands in hands, with the organizations operating inside or outside the education community to face the problems and challenges of 21st century and keep the standards of higher education excellent.
ACE also played a key role in induction of round about 300 of 1,500 fellows as chief executives at more then 350 colleges and universities, according to their Fellows program that was established in 1965. Through which, a lot of fellows have taken up key leadership seats in a number of Colleges and Universities across America, as head of department, dean, vice presidents and presidents.
GED or General Educational Development has also been established by ACE. It's a test program that measure whether a students of Canada or USA are competent and have the amount of knowledge and skills that are desired and expected from a high school graduate. Doing that gives an opportunity to those under-graduates who lack a formal college degree to prove that they are competent and equivalent to the high school graduates.
ACE further desires and aims to be the most significant higher education body operating in USA and plan and implement various policies for student's financial aid, better scientific research facilities for national as well as international students. It also seeks to make higher education's voice in public policy strong by developing a unified and combined position on lawmaking issues and interact with the judiciary system. ACE also uses different types of media like TV, banners etc. to help promote the significance of higher education among people. ACE also plays a key role in the nurturing and development of the potential future leaders along with the current high education leader and serves as a resource center.
ACE has also developed an Advancement Center, whose main purpose is to raise funds for its programs and accepts support in access, success, equity, and diversity; leadership; institutional effectiveness; lifelong learning; and internationalization. As for the business community ACE has developed another program that receives support from the business community called The Alliance Program. In order to help support ACE's vision for future and to implement their strategies ACE works close with foundations and corporations. To help improve the higher education standards the Council also operates public forums and discursions where rising issues and problems are discussed and resolved accordingly.
