Clark Atlanta University (CAU) offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree and non-degree programs to students of diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. It is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. CAU is one of only two private, historically black universities in the United States that award the doctorate in more than five disciplines.
The university is located in Atlanta, Georgia. It was formed in 1988 with the consolidation of Clark College and Atlanta University. During the 1980s some of the advantages of proximity, which had seemed promising earlier, again became evident. Clark College and Atlanta University through consolidation preserved the best of the past and present and "Charted a Bold New Future." Clark Atlanta University was created on July 1, 1988.
