The Berdan Institute hence has a very important role to play since it equips students, through short term training, for an exciting and lucrative career in health care. Providing hands on experiences through lab work and offsite externships, in addition to classroom teaching, Berdan Institute offers courses, which can be completed within the year.

Established in 1976, the Berdan Institute was then known as the Berdan Institute for Medical Secretaries, and its classes began in 1977. Diversification began in 1979, with the establishment of the Dental Assisting Program, which was accredited by the American Dental Association. In 1990 EFC Trade Inc. purchased and presently owns Berdan Institute.

Berdan Institute offers a variety of career focused programs, such as training as Biotechnician, which includes scientific research and biotechnology procedures in the laboratory leading to rewarding and lucrative work in crime labs, medical labs, and pharmaceutical labs etc. Massage therapy and pharmacy technician degrees are also available. Medical Assistant, Dental Assistant, Medical Office Administrator, and Medical Billing/coding courses are also taught here. All these programs are highly specialized, and prepare students for the real life challenges ahead.
