The county Board of Education established Anne Arundel Community College on Jan. 2, 1961. Dr. Andrew G. Truxal became its first president. The College moved to its own 165-acre Arnold campus in September 1967. It was accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, now known as the Middle States Commission on Higher Education in April 1968. In 1994 and again in 2004, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education reaffirmed its accreditation without condition.
